Student of the Year Award

The LSRC Student of the Year Award recognizes an exceptional respiratory therapy student who exemplifies academic excellence, outstanding clinical performance, leadership, and a commitment to the respiratory care profession. This prestigious award honors a student who not only excels in the classroom and clinical settings but also actively engages in professional and community initiatives, demonstrating dedication to advancing respiratory care and improving patient outcomes.

Eligibility

  • Current enrollment in a CoARC accredited respiratory therapy program at the time of nomination.
  • Good academic standing per the program director.

Award Criteria

  • Academic Excellence
    • Maintains a high academic performance (program GPA ≥ 3.0 on a 4.0 scale)
  • Clinical Performance
    • Displays professionalism while in the clinical setting
    • Displays exceptional clinical skills and delivers compassionate, patient-centered care
  • Professional Involvement and Leadership
    • Active AARC Early Professional Membership
    • Involvement in local LSRC chapter activities and/or state level activities
    • Professional activities that enhance the student’s resume
  • Community Service and Advocacy
    • Participation in community outreach, health fairs, or public education efforts related to respiratory care.

Nomination Process

  • Nominations may be submitted by faculty, clinical preceptors, or student peers.
  • Nominations should be submitted via email to [email protected] or [email protected] no later than December 15th.
  • Nominations must be accompanied by a letter of recommendation that details the merit of the nominee.
  • A letter of good standing from the respective CoARC accredited respiratory therapy program must accompany the nomination.

Selection Process

  • One (1) award shall be presented each year at the LSRC Annual Educational Meeting. If a strong candidate who meets all criteria cannot be chosen, no award will be presented for that year.
  • Nominations shall be reviewed and voted on by a committee consisting of Louisiana Respiratory Therapy Educators.

The award recipient will be announced at the annual business meeting of the LSRC Board of Directors.

Additionally, this award will include:

  • A one-year renewal of their AARC membership
  • A beautiful award/plaque to display
  • Awardee will be added to the ‘Student of the Year’ poster displayed at the annual educational conference
